Lions, Tigers, and Lifelong Memories: Geraldene Lombard's Passion

Geraldene Lombard has always been captivated by lions and tigers. Over the years, she has meticulously pieced together several 1500-piece puzzles depicting her favourite animals. Her friends and family know her love for these majestic creatures well, and one day, a close friend surprised her with a photo of an ‘astonished-looking’ lion.

"I made it my desktop background and saved it as my cell phone’s background too! Couldn’t get enough of it!" Geraldene recalls.

Turning Passion into Art

In addition to puzzles, Geraldene is passionate about drawing and painting. Inspired by the ‘astonished lion’ photo, she initially considered drawing it but felt she might not be able to do the image justice. Instead, she had the image printed on glass with an LED backlight, which beautifully accentuates its vibrant colours.

Geraldene’s creative journey didn’t stop there. She discovered another stunning lion photo and decided to draw and paint her version of it. Her efforts earned countless compliments, leading her to approach RapidStudio to create a split panel canvas set of the ‘astonished lion.’ The final product exceeded her expectations, and it now holds pride of place in her study.

What the Lions Mean to Geraldene

When asked about the significance of these two lion images, Geraldene shared her heartfelt thoughts:

"The picture I painted is proof that, if you set your mind to something, and find it in yourself to believe that you can accomplish something quite difficult … then you can! What I drew and painted shows that I can, and it also shows a deeper side to a person’s interests and efforts in something profound."

As for the ‘astonished lion,’ it carries a different but equally profound meaning for Geraldene:

"It tells me that true friends care about one. They know your passions, your fascinations, and take care to do little things for you. Every time I see the picture hanging in my study, it reminds me of the small gestures one friend can do for another. To me, it’s always the small things that count and that form part of my lifelong memories!"
