What is Boudoir Photography?

Boudoir photography is a sexy, intimate trend that's gaining popularity, especially as a wedding day gift from a bride to her partner. These photos typically feature subjects wearing little, or sometimes nothing at all, capturing a balance of sensuality and empowerment.

“There are few things as sexy and badass as a woman—thin, thick, small, or tall—who loves her body and is daring enough to show a little skin.”

5 Tips for Taking the Perfect Boudoir Photos

1. Choose a Comfortable Location

Whether it’s the client’s bedroom, a cozy hotel room, or even a poolside setting, the location should make the subject feel comfortable. Boudoir photography is for all body types, and creating a relaxing environment is key to capturing confidence.

2. Take a "Before & After" Photo

Start with a well-lit "before" photo in a simple setting before makeup and hair styling. This isn’t meant to be unflattering—just a baseline for transformation. After the makeover, capture a “Facebook-safe” image to showcase the stunning results of the session.

3. Start Fully Clothed

Ease into the session by starting with the client fully clothed. Capture glamour shots first, then slowly transition into more revealing poses. The process of peeling off layers can be sensual and adds depth to the story of the session.

4. Break It Down Into Chunks

Focus on smaller details like the neck, shoulders, or legs before moving to full-body shots. This approach allows clients to relax and gives photographers room to get creative, making for beautiful collages in the final album.
