Creative Cover-Ups for Home Horrors

My house was built in 1948, which makes her an old dame of 67 years. It’s only fair to expect a few wrinkles here and there. She’s in need of some TLC, but between school runs, my day job, and the dreaded thought of builders invading my home, I’ve come up with some creative solutions to hide a few horrors. Maybe you have them too!

Large crack on a wall, ready to be covered up with a canvas for a seamless look

Horror Number 1: The Crack!

I have a crack through my bathroom tiles caused by a hot water pipe behind the wall. Instead of re-tiling, I hung a beautiful canvas to cover it up. Not only does it hide the issue, but it also adds warmth and texture to a stark white bathroom.

Tip: Don’t hang a canvas directly over a bath or shower, as the steam may affect the canvas stretch on the frame.

Horror Number 2: DIY Plaster Jobs!

We’ve all been there—bad DIY plaster jobs that stick out like a sore thumb. I covered mine with a fabric-covered frame that complements my kitchen decor. It’s a quick and stylish fix!

Horror Number 3: Unsightly DB (Distribution) Board!

Old houses always seem to have the DB board in the most awkward places. I used a 4 cm depth frame from RapidStudio to neatly cover it up while still allowing easy access.

Horror Number 4: Underfloor Heating Controller!

If your underfloor heating controller wasn’t planned to sit behind a curtain, it’s probably sticking out like a pimple on your wall. A 4 cm depth canvas works perfectly to hide it in style.

Horror Number 5: Old-Fashioned Features!

Some old-fashioned features, like this stained glass window, don’t always fit modern decor. I hung a canvas over it to modernise the space without damaging the original window. That way, it can still be uncovered and appreciated in the future.
