How to grow your photography business

New Year, New Opportunities
It’s the beginning of a new year filled with possibilities. We all have high hopes of achieving our personal and business goals this year. Some may call it luck, but as you already know, luck happens where preparation meets opportunity. Today, let’s focus on preparing for the opportunities that will arise when you make them happen.
Remember the Power of Print
As my work has become more commercially oriented, I’ve focused on providing clients with high-resolution digital files for web and print campaigns. Somewhere along the way, though, I neglected printing my own images. That all changed last year when I saw my printed work featured at the RapidStudio stand during the Photo and Film Expo.
As a RapidStudio ambassador, my images were displayed across various products and showcased beautifully in glass cabinets. Seeing my work in print was a proud moment – one that reminded me of the impact high-quality printing can have. Unlike digital media, a beautifully printed photo captures your original intentions perfectly. The vibrant colour values and textures make your work feel timeless and more impactful – even to you, the creator.
Print Products to Elevate Your Marketing
Inspired by this, I’ve begun preparing new layouts and designs to market my business in 2024. Here are a few ideas I’m implementing with RapidStudio products:
The Portfolio
Every photographer needs a beautifully printed portfolio. I recommend the 30x30cm Ultimate Album, which is perfect for my preferred square format. I mix matte and metallic finishes to suit the subject matter, and I favour the substantial Standard pages. Clients often comment on how rare it is to see portfolios of such high quality. They take their time paging through it, allowing you to discuss your work and share how your skills can benefit their business.
The Bragbook
Your portfolio might stay in the meeting room, but a 7.5x7.5cm Bragbook fits easily in your handbag, camera bag, or even your pocket. By printing a smaller version of your portfolio, you can showcase your work anytime. It’s far more professional than showing photos on your phone!
Samples
Clients need to see your products to truly appreciate their quality. Create tangible samples like Instablocks or Folio Boxes to help your clients visualise the final presentation. It not only adds value to your commission but also encourages word-of-mouth marketing when they show off the products to others.
Branded Discs and Packaging
Keep a set of branded discs and custom boxes on hand for quick turnarounds. Presentation is everything, and every client – no matter how big or small – deserves a professionally packaged delivery. First impressions count!
Mobile Phone Covers
We’ve all seen branded company cars, but why stop there? Create a custom mobile phone cover with a striking image and your logo. It’s an effortless way to promote your business wherever you go and doubles as a mini portfolio to up-sell your product range.
What Will You Be Doing?
These are just a few ideas I’ll be using to market Natalie Field Photography with RapidStudio products this year. How will you showcase your work and seize opportunities in 2024? Share your thoughts in the comment section below!
